I have to admit that gratitude was never on my radar until I began my coaching program. It truly has made a difference in how I approach things in life so including it in my coaching is something I will extend to clients as an invitation in hopes that they will explore it! Thank you Meg for this post and for sharing about your mother and how she invited gratitude in her life.
How interesting! I'd be curious to hear more. To your point, that brings up an area of coaching sensitivity that I have often thought about--not everyone grew up or was exposed to things like "gratitude" or "envisioning" or "thinking flourishing was a birthright." It could be unsettling to a client to be introduced to these concepts abruptly if they have not been part of their experience. As coaches, we need to bring that awareness into our work. I am loving the energy and phrasing around "extending an invitation to our clients" to explore gratitude. I see an image of hands reaching out with an offering--beautiful. Thank you for this insight.
