Welcome to Lean In To Coaching!

Hi! I’m Meg Root, MS, NBC-HWC, I’m glad you’re here.

A little bit about me and my Substack effort:

I am a national board-certified health and wellbeing coach with a career full of experience in the health, wellbeing, and destination spa industry. You name it, I’ve done it, from personal training, to group exercise and yoga instructor, presenter, writer, content creator, and health and wellbeing coach.

My current passion and purpose is to help NBC-HWC (and those working toward their certification) accelerate the launch of their health coaching careers by eliminating the struggle and guesswork with a detailed roadmap to success.

In 2023 I was named Coach of the Year at the inaugural Health and Wellbeing Coaching Conference in San Diego, CA (that’s me to the right of the renowned Dr. Michael Arloski and with my amazing mentor, Dr. Jessica Matthews, to the far left).

I share this only because it was a cool honor and might give me a bit of street cred for the work I do.

As part of my own journey, I worked for a national corporate wellbeing services company for over five years; first as an on-site Senior Wellness Coach and then as a training and development manager, where I trained and on-boarded over 150 wellness coaches into busy workplace settings using, you guessed it; a detailed roadmap to success.

You can imagine . . . hiring new team members and telling them to go figure it out on their own would have ended in disaster for both the coach and the company! And yet, that’s how it can feel sometimes after we leave the supportive environment of our coach training programs.

Instead, supporting their training and onboarding with a consistent and predictable process meant every coach reached their launch day with the understandable “butterflies” of a new beginning, AND the confidence and excitement of, “I can do this!”

My Substack is about sharing real life stories from the field, inspiration, and evidence-based tips to help you lean more confidently into your coaching launch and ongoing success. I also offer pro bono “Coaches Corner” sessions to help coaches with the “little things” that trip them up, and more formal structured “launch” support for those who want to fast track their efforts.

Here is my March 2025 calendar for Coach’s Corner. How can I help?

I believe that each NBC-HWC success story strengthens the success and credibility of our whole field, leading to improved career trajectories and more sustainable compensation structures.

I hope my newsletter is a helpful resource for your coaching efforts. I'd also love this space to be an engaging community. If you are here--you know about coaching too. So, share your ideas, expertise, and experiences, let me know what’s on your mind, and we'll support each other together.

Onward! Let's lean in to coaching!
